The Freedom Tower

Just Five Years

It took a mere 63 months after the 9/11 attacks on the World trade Center to raise the first steel beams for the Freedom Tower, notes Dean Barnett in the National Review. “The fact that it took over five years to take this baby step is a metaphor for a lot of things,” he said, “none of them good. We were going to rebuild fast to show the terrorists that they didn’t defeat us. Somehow I doubt if the terrorists are still watching, they’re much impressed by our progress.”

  1. What the terrorists think of the United States is not at the core of calculated thought. Careful searching for the remains of loved ones, thoughtful planning for the memorial of those whose lives were struck by these hateful creatures, and intelligent designing of the new structure are examples of Yankee ingenuity that signal sensibility.

If those involved in the construction and maintenance of this project can maintain creativity and consideration, they actually could present a beautifully positive statement to the world.
