Ground Zero Spirit

No matter what your interests, www.worldsfamousphotos.com is especially worthwhile just to see the Ground Zero spirit photo of three firefighters raising the American flag again high above the rubble of the World Trade Center.

For me, this photo symbolizes more than the American spirit, it illustrates the human spirit. The photo was shot by Thomas E. Franklin of the Bergen (New Jersey) Record, the Hackensack newspaper I have long respected. It was syndicated by the AP and nominated for a Pulitzer Prize in 2002.
Take a look. The site captures the Spirit of St. Louis, Pearl Harbor, a great day in Harlem and many other images captured for us by all the photographers like Franklin, who help us keep hope alive.

  1. In 36 hours, I will have introduced a new creative theory that encapsulates the expression represented by these artists, and shortly afterwards, I will post this theory right here. It involves literature, art, and music. Although this is a new theory, creators from throughout history have expressed their themata utilizing this concept.

But then, what do I know…

  2. Themata? My God woman! Creators throughout history? It seems like something my students keep trying to define visually and verbally and I too think I have an example that might in fact be the visualization of such a theory. The theory has always been beyond my ken but, themata? That is my territory, I think.

  3. There have been examples of this theory expressed by many creative thinkers in a variety of expressive venues, from oral stories voiced around an open fire to simple drawings to techno music.

The term ‘themata’ is not mine. Ask John Briggs about it. I don’t know which one of you used it first, but it was appropriate, so I used it.
